F1
We have heard no news yet, of if Mercedes will protest the result of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, after their appeals were thrown out. My gut feeling is that they won’t, as the negative press, and pain it would cause wouldn’t be worth the slim chance of them overturning the result. However, I do not blame them if they decide to try, as it was a silly decision by the FIA.
Hamilton has finally been knighted today, which will be some consolation for the weekend. In fact, the way he handled the defeat on Sunday, shows exactly why he deserves to be knighted, as there was so much class in the acceptance of defeat, despite the unfair circumstances that played out. He will surely be out for revenge in 2022!
It was a puncture that cost Norris so many points in the final race, as he had to pit from 5th, which allowed Sainz to overtake him in the drivers championship. Another unlucky event for McLaren in a year of two halves for them.
Haas ended the post season test top of the sheets, which at least gives them something to be pleased about, after a diabolical season. Meanwhile, IndyCar star O’Ward, says the McLaren F1 car is addictive, after getting his first drive in it during the post season test. Russell called the Mercedes return ‘strange’ in the test, as he gears up for a whole year with the team in 2022, where much success could be awaiting him!
IndyCar
Plenty of driver news, as Johnson confirms he will drive the full season next year in the 48 for Chip Gannasi Racing. Carvana will return with the team, and it will be exciting to see how Jimmie does at the Indy 500. As well as that, we should see improvements from him across the whole season.
Hinchcliffe has announced he will step away from IndyCar in a full time capacity, he still intends to do the odd race though. This is basically the confirmation we needed that he will take over from fellow Canadian Paul Tracy, as the third commentator in the booth, which will be a great addition to the team.
Finally, Malukas will be in the 2nd Dale Coyne seat alongside Sato. An entirely brand new team is risky for Dale, but he is known to take chances, and he has a promising line up for 2022.
Formula E
McLaren will not make any decisions on entering Formula E until early next year, which effectively rules them out of joining for the first year of the new regulations, as surely they will need a year or two to get ready for such a programme. I think it is possible they could join, but most likely in partnership with another entity.
