All the latest news from the racing world!

F1

Losail International Circuit, the long time season opener for MotoGP, may end up on the F1 calendar at some point this year, due to the departure of some other events. Whilst it is a great facility, the track layout itself may not be the best for action, as the long pit straight may serve as the only overtaking opportunity. The track is built for bikes rather than race cars really, however a race here will be better than nothing.

There are rumours circling that Toto Wolff and Lawrence Stroll are under investigation for ‘insider trading’ by the Canadian authorities. This is to do with the buying and selling of Aston Martin shares, in particular due to their connections through F1, as Mercedes supply engines to them.

IndyCar

Grosjean’s race engineer believes that he is ready to race on the rest of the ovals that the series has to offer, after impressing at points in his first ever oval race. Going to tracks like Texas and Indy will be very different for Romain compared to Gateway, however this will act as a very good warm up for him, if he does do a full season next year, which we expect he will.

Foyt is very pleased apparently, as the team got their best result of the year last weekend. It has been a tough time for the team recently, basically ever since Sato left in 2016, but bringing in Bourdais does seem to have invigorated the team somewhat. I do think that next year could be even better for them if they continue to be backed by their sponsors.

MotoGP

The dramatic saga between Yamaha and Vinales is coming to an end, as they have agreed to part ways with immediate effect. This surprising revelation really does make us wonder what has caused all of this to occur, as over revving the engine doesn’t warrant being fired. If Maverick has been having a go at Yamaha, it is utterly stupid on his part, as from what we can see, the only problem with his side of the garage is that he can’t ride the bike like Quartararo can! I hope that going to Aprilia he can get his head back in the right place, as he is a good rider.

As a result of all the musical chairs at Yamaha, Crutchlow will be in the factory squad for his home race this coming weekend, which will give him the best possible chance of a good result. Then, the vacant seat at Petronas SRT will be taken by Moto2 rider, and fellow Brit, Jake Dixon, which may be a good indication of who will join the team full time next year!

Other News

Cadillac has announced that it will be joining the new LMDh format, with campaigns both in IMSA and WEC. The GM Brand will have its cars run by Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express Racing, and will first race at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona, before going to Le Mans the same year. This is the 5th manufacturer joining the LMDh programme, further bolstering the future of top level endurance racing.
